The week in review...

So I'm going to try something new that a friend of mine is doing, which is to try to sum up the highlights of the week at the end of each week, rather than waiting for the Blog muse to light on my shoulder and give me a brilliant idea.

Of course, we had the fun of Halloween last Saturday.

The day started with a big "trick", getting the kids to an H1N1 vaccination clinic. We were lucky in that we were able to get in and out in less than 2 hours. By the time we left, the clinic wait time was around 5 hours, according to their Website. I'll be interested to see what happens in 4 weeks, when all the kids under 10 need to have a booster shot! Anyway, the girls got their vaccination via Flumist, which Kid 1.0 tolerated very well, but Tot 2.0 really really hated; as much as an injection. All is well though and there seem to be no ill effects.

From there, we moved on to a party midday at a friends' house in the neighborhood, complete with mini-hay rides behind the lawn tractor, and a hunt for prizes in a haystack.

And of course, for the main event, we had friends over for dinner, then headed out for neighborhood trick-or-treating. It was a great time for everyone, but we were all seriously wiped out by the end of the night.

Sunday was a quiet day, with church in the morning, then some alone time for me in the afternoon, running errands while Tom looked after the girls for a bit. The time change fouled up Tot 2.0's sleep something fierce for a few nights, but we seem to be back on track again.

We had our usual routine swimming lessons on Monday night, and both girls are progressing very nicely. Tot 2.0 is getting used to being in the pool without me. She had a substitute instructor this week and took it without a hitch. Kid 1.0 is working on perfecting her back and freestyle strokes, and learning rudimentary butterfly and breast strokes.

Tuesday was off to Kid 1.0's gymnastics class. She is also doing really well here too, beginning to really get the hang of some of the basic moves.

Wednesday is usually our "hump day" where we stay home and get caught up, but this week, I dragged Tot 2.0 into the city to get a pair of boots that I could only get downtown. T2 got a new pair of winter shoes too, and made quite a splash in the shoe department with her favorite white teddy, Annabelle, all tricked out in a black sequined vest and tiny black jeans. We enjoyed lunch together before heading home to meet sister at the bus stop.

Unfortunately, Thursday AM started with a trip to the pediatrician as I suspected (and had confirmed) that Kid 1.0 had come down with strep throat in the night. We were lucky to get in to the doc's office at 9:30, but by the time we finished there, stopped at the Walgreens for her Rx and supplies and got home it was 11:30 and we were all beat. We spent the day napping and watching TV to help big sister feel better. Strawberry ice cream all around!

Friday was more shopping fun. Kid 1.0 was feeling pretty well this AM after 24 hours on the antibiotics, so even though she had to stay home from school, we ventured out to do some much needed grocery shopping. After a quick drop-off at home, we headed to the mall to get K1 her own new pair of winter shoes. I am proud to say that while we were out, Tot 2.0 actually told me she need to use the potty! YAY! She's been pretty successfully using the bathroom at home, but this is the first time she asked in public, without me prompting her. It was a big moment in the world of parenting.

As for this weekend, I've got plans to go to a girlfriend's birthday party on Saturday night and we have a friend's birthday party for Kid 1.0 on Sunday. It's a bowling party so it should be great entertainment for the parents if nothing else.

Onward and upward, until next time.
