Mary P, our beloved nanny, is still quite sick. We had hoped she would return to work next week, but it looks like she'll be out until at least the 6th, and perhaps that week too.
The girls have been enjoying the company of a sub-nanny, who has been taking excellent care of them, but it's not quite the same -- especially not for me, since temp. nannies do not do laundry, vacuum, or the other small household chores that my Mary P. had taken on (voluntarily) as her own.
Meanwhile, the March weather has been hideous, and my mood matches it, as I am coming down with my umpteenth cold of the season. The girls, fortunately, seem to be staying well.
Some good news to share:
Tom won his weight lifting competition at the beginning of the month; bringing home a shiny plaque and two bright red t-shirts for the girls...a bright spot for sure.
Kid 1.0 got to be VIP in her classroom this week, which necessitated the creation of a poster with photos and small memorabilia, the completion of a 10-question survey about her (when she was born, fav. toy, fav. story, etc.) and some nice attention for her. On the first day of the student's VIP week, they share their poster in front of the class, which my little drama queen loved. On Tuesday, they get to take and share a favorite toy. On Wednesday, the entire class makes a book about the VIP. On Thursday, the VIP gets to bring a favorite story from home to have read during story time, and finally, on Friday, everything is sent home.
K1.0 also participated in the American Heart Assoc. Jump for Heart fund-raiser at school this week. She exceeded her goal of raising $100 ($120 to be exact); so our thanks those who contributed. When I get my act together, we'll send out real thank you notes to you all.
Tot 2.0 is barreling along, as only a toddler can. This week, she pitches a complete fit when we come near her with a wash-rag for the quick clean-up after meal time (not a problem last week, mind you). She is really enjoying dressing herself right now, and picks out clothes to wear first thing in the morning; then 10 minutes later, then 30 minutes after that, then after we get back from the bus stop, etc. etc. etc. She is doing very well with her swimming program, and graduated to the next class level, so she'll be learning some great new skills this spring.
So, at least I can say that March is almost over. I am hoping that April proves to be less tempestuous, but then I remember TS Eliot, and so, can only hope for improvement.
Love to all.
